Slingshot Studios – The Complete Company Lowdown

Founded in 2016, Slingshot Studios is an up and coming team of games creators based on the east coast of South Africa, around ten miles from the city of Durban. It’s a relatively small outfit, with around a dozen employees, most of whom live in the surrounding area.

Yet despite these seemingly obscure and unpromising roots, this talented bunch are creating quite a reputation within the industry. So much so that they have already caught the eye of industry giants Microgaming. Whilst maintaining their independence, Slingshot Studios have signed an exclusive deal to distribute their new games through Microgaming’s powerful gaming platform.

This is a great deal for both parties. Microgaming get to import some of the most innovative new slots in the business. Meanwhile, little Slingshot Studios, not far from the golden beaches of the Indian Ocean, get to distribute their games through the worldwide network of one of the biggest names in online gaming software. This arrangement is already paying dividends, as the company’s slots are now available to play for United Kingdom based players and just about everywhere else on the planet too.

At the time of writing, there are only a handful of games in the company’s portfolio. But there is surely plenty more to come, because if their first games under this exclusive deal are anything to go by, we are in for a treat.

The standard of the graphics and animation on every slot is simply superb. Take Banana Odyssey as an example. This colourful game features a fun filled race through space. Join cartoon heroes Chip and Buck as they voyage across the void looking for tasty morsels like astronuts (geddit?) and of course, the titular bananas. It’s a standard five reel, three row format, paying both ways with a relatively generous 96.3% Return to Player rate (RTP).

Meanwhile, if Banana Odyssey takes a somewhat futuristic approach, Cash of Kingdoms takes the historical fantasy and adventure path. It’s an exciting mash up of Robin Hood meets the knights of old kind of ripping yarn, and it’s great fun to play.

Zombie Hoards is also a cartoon based game, but takes a darker line. It’s definitely a playful game though. The jolly soundtrack gives the game away, although the disembodied limbs which wave and applaud either side of your reels are a fun addition. Nevertheless, players looking for a horror filled depiction of the Night of the Living Dead will need to look elsewhere.

However, if you are looking for something genuinely dark and creepy, you could do a lot worse than trying out the Slingshot Studios’ impressive A Dark Matter. In this atmospheric and brooding game, you are invited to venture into the gothic towers of Wraith Manor, to attempt to uncover the mysteries within. With a gloomy, doom laden orchestral soundtrack, this game has a dark and Victorian, vaguely Hammer Horror air to it.

With such a tiny team of close knit designers, the rate of production here is not exactly prolific. That makes the sense of anticipation all the stronger though, as we await the next instalment in the Slingshot Studios story.

With the company’s exclusive distribution deal with market leading software giants Microgaming in the bag, there is sure to be far more to come from Slingshot Studios. Look out for their games, which can be found on many Progress Play powered casinos.
